Walk gate on each side of the house

This white vinyl fence installation closes off the back yard of a Windermere home with a walk gate on each side of the house. Both gates sit right against the stone veneer corners. On one side the fence crosses a paver walkway and a bed of river rock. On the other it meets the house beside a downspout. Nothing about the landscaping had to be torn out to make it fit. Both gates are full privacy and the same height as the panels beside them, so from the yard the whole fence reads as one clean line.

Windermere is a regular stop for our crews, under an hour from our St. Cloud yard. Straightline Fence has been installing fences across Orange County since 2012, with the vinyl pulled from our own stock. Call (407) 593-1888 to set up an estimate.

Two gates

Should a back yard fence have a gate on both sides?

On most homes, yes. Two gates means you never walk around the whole house to get to the back.

On this house, one side holds the hose bib, the river rock bed and a paver path. The other side is grass. With a gate on each, the owners can roll the trash cans out one way and bring the mower in the other. Lawn crews and pool techs also tend to use whichever side is closer to where they parked, and they will thank you for the choice.

Each gate here is hung on black hinges, with a latch that catches when it swings shut. Gate posts get a deeper hole and more concrete than line posts, because they take the swing every day and are the first to sag on a cheap job. The paver edging stayed in place. Where a post had to land near it, the crew dug carefully so the border stayed straight. Our vinyl fence installation page shows the gate and panel styles we carry.

How does a vinyl fence attach to a stone veneer wall?

The end post usually stands on its own, just off the wall, so nothing gets drilled into the stone.

Stone and brick veneer is a thin face over the real wall behind it, and it does not like anchors. Drilling into it risks cracking a stone or opening a path for water. So on a house like this, the fence ends at a post set in concrete right beside the corner. The gap left is small enough that a dog cannot slip through, and you can see in the photos how close the post sits.

Downspouts matter here too. One side of this house has a downspout on the corner, and the fence stops short of it so the water still drains away from the slab instead of pooling against the fence. Small decisions like that are why we look at every corner during the estimate. Our fence company in Winter Garden page covers more of the work we do on this side of Orange County.

Permits

Do you need a permit for a fence in Windermere?

Usually, and the first question is who issues it. Many Windermere addresses are not inside the Town of Windermere.

The Town of Windermere is small, and it sets its own rules for homes inside town limits. A large share of the homes with a Windermere mailing address, though, sit in unincorporated Orange County, and the county handles those. The rules on height and placement are not identical, so we confirm which one applies before we quote. Then we pull the permit as part of the job.

Most homes out here also sit in an HOA, and the HOA is usually stricter than either government. Some communities set the color, the style and the height outright. Get that approval first, because a fence the HOA rejects has to come down at your cost. If your HOA handed you a spec sheet, bring it to the estimate and we will read it with you. A yard like this one usually takes two days on site. To get a number on yours, schedule a free estimate or call (407) 593-1888.
