Who installs fences in Melbourne and Brevard County?

Brevard is long and thin, and it changes as you drive it. Titusville and the north end sit near the water and the wildlife refuge. Cocoa and Rockledge in the middle mix older river town lots with newer builds. Then the growth end: Melbourne, Palm Bay, Viera and beachside towns like Satellite Beach, where whole subdivisions have gone up off I-95 and Wickham Road. A privacy fence in a new Viera backyard and a farm run out toward Grant Valkaria are not the same job.

In unincorporated Brevard the residential limit is six feet, and it drops to four feet inside the twenty foot front setback. At a street intersection nothing can stand taller than three and a half feet inside the sight triangle, which runs ten feet along a local road and thirty feet along a bigger one. The cities of Melbourne and Palm Bay run their own permit desks with their own wrinkles, so the rule you fall under depends on the exact address. We check that before we quote, not after.
Brevard adds one thing most counties do not. A fence contractor has to earn a county Certificate of Competency before they can pull a permit here, which means documented experience, notarized letters from people who have supervised the work, a background report and insurance on file. It is a real barrier, and it is why the county has fewer fence companies than a place this size should. Ask whoever you hire whether they hold it. Which fence holds up best on the Space Coast?

Brevard sits in a high wind zone. The ultimate design wind speed runs around 160 mph for a typical home, higher the closer you get to the beach, and that number is not a formality on a six or eight foot fence acting like a sail. We set posts two to three feet deep in concrete and space them for the run, which is the difference between a fence that rides out a storm and one that lies in the yard after. Salt air is the other Space Coast problem. What do Viera and Suntree HOAs allow?
In the master planned communities, the HOA decides your fence before the county does.
Viera, Suntree and the Del Webb communities run architectural review committees, and in Central Viera the association wants an application approved before anything goes in the ground. They are specific about material, color and height. Vinyl usually has to be white or an earth tone, and aluminum usually has to be black or bronze powder coat, which happens to line up with what survives the salt air anyway. Get the fence style wrong for the community and the review sends you back to the start, after you have already paid for panels.
