Location
Winter Garden, FL
Material
Catalyst vinyl, made in USA

Six foot privacy

Walk gate at the house

This American made white vinyl fence encloses the back and side yards of an established home in Winter Garden. Mature trees line the property, and some of their trunks sit only a foot or two off the fence line. The result is six foot privacy all the way around, a walk gate tucked beside the house, and no tree lost to make room.

The vinyl is Catalyst, made in Tennessee, Bartow and Plant City. Straightline Fence has stocked it in our St. Cloud showroom for years, which means you can hold a real panel before you choose and we can match a damaged one a decade from now. Call (407) 593-1888 to set up a visit.

Does it matter where a vinyl fence is made?

Yes, and the reason is in the chemistry, not the flag.

White vinyl survives the Florida sun because of titanium dioxide in the profile, which works as a UV inhibitor. Skimp on it and the surface chalks, the white turns yellow and, worst of all, the panel goes brittle. A good panel flexes in a summer storm. A brittle one cracks. Imported vinyl with a thinner wall and a weaker UV package can look identical on install day. The difference shows up around year five.

Buying domestic also means a panel that will still exist when you need a replacement. If a limb comes down on this fence in a hurricane, we can pull the same profile off our shelf. Our vinyl fence installation page goes into the styles and colors we carry, from full privacy to ranch rail.

Trees

Can a vinyl fence go in close to big trees?

It can, as long as the crew is willing to dig some of the holes by hand.

Winter Garden has a lot of old canopy, especially on the established streets around downtown and Plant Street. Big trees put roots right where a post wants to go. An auger that hits a thick root either stalls or tears it. Near the trunks on this job, the crew dug by hand and nudged post spacing a few inches to miss the worst of them.

Vinyl panels come in fixed widths, so moving a post means cutting a section to fit. That is slower, and it is the right call. Cutting through a major root to save twenty minutes can kill the tree, and a dead tree next to a fence is a problem waiting for the next storm. Our fence company in Winter Garden page covers the other things that shape fence jobs around town.

The gate

Where should a fence gate go on a back yard?

Usually where you already walk. Here, that meant tight against the corner of the house.

The owner walks the trash cans out down the side of the house, so the gate went right there, beside the porch post. It is hung on black hinges and a latch that catches on its own when it swings shut. That self latching action is worth checking on any fence. A gate that has to be pushed closed is a gate left open by a kid, and then the dog is out.

Gate posts are the ones that move first if anything does, because they carry the swing every day. Ours go into concrete at two to three feet, deeper than a line post where the gate is wide. A back yard like this one is usually two days on site, posts first and panels once the concrete sets. To get a number on yours, schedule a free estimate or call (407) 593-1888.
