This aluminum fence installation in Winter Park runs along the front of a wooded property with a long, curving driveway. There are two gates on the job and they do two very different things. An arched double gate opens into the garden, set between two tall hedges. A wide driveway gate closes off the drive, with an automatic opener so nobody has to get out of the car in the rain. The garden gate

What gate style works best for a garden entrance?

An arched double gate, if the opening is wide enough and you want the entrance to look planned rather than like a gap in the fence.

The top rail on this one curves up to meet in the middle, the pickets finish in spear points, and the posts carry pointed caps. Splitting the opening into two leaves keeps each one lighter on its hinges, and each leaf swings a shorter arc, which matters when there are hedges on both sides waiting to catch it. A single wide leaf would sag sooner and scrape the ground.

Style follows the property. Yes. We install LiftMaster operators, and on this job the swing opener went in during the same visit as the fence.

The carton in this photo is a LiftMaster LA400 kit, a swing gate operator made for residential driveways. The control box is already mounted on the gate post. Planning for an opener changes the fence itself. The hinge post has to carry the gate and the operator arm, and the wiring route needs to be settled before any post is set, not trenched in afterward. The gate also has to swing clear of the ground across its whole arc, because an opener fighting a high spot in the drive strains on every cycle.
