This aluminum fence in Orlando wraps the side yard of a newer modern farmhouse, the kind with black board and batten siding and a metal roof. The fence is black flat top aluminum. Florida law requires a Sunshine 811 locate before anyone digs, and it takes two full business days. The locators mark buried lines with paint and small flags, and a few of those red flags are still standing in the grass along this run. Every post hole stays clear of them. On a newer lot, the utility lines often run along the side of the house, which is exactly where a side yard fence wants to go.

Then the permit. The wait is the locate, the permit and the material. The crew itself moves quickly. Posts go in first, set in concrete at two to three feet, and the panels hang once that concrete has set up. Aluminum is light. The gate post still gets the same depth as any other gate post, because it carries a hinge and a latch and takes a knock every time somebody swings the gate too hard.
