This white vinyl fence installation wraps a metal carport in St. Cloud where the owners park their camper. From the street it looks like an ordinary white privacy fence. Inside the long section across the front, though, there is a welded steel frame with diagonal braces. The vinyl panels and posts are fastened over that steel, so the run stays straight across an opening far wider than a vinyl gate could span by itself. The rest of the lot is wrapped in standard white privacy panels, laid out around the big live oaks that shade the yard.

The job was just down the road from us. Straightline Fence works out of a yard and walk in showroom at 1621 13th Street in St. Cloud, so the panels came off our own shelves. Call (407) 593-1888 if you have something big to hide.

The carport

Can a vinyl fence hide an RV carport?

Yes. A solid white run screens the carport and the camper under it from the street.

Metal carports are everywhere in St. Cloud, especially on the larger, older lots where there is room to park a camper or a boat. They are practical. They are not pretty. A privacy fence across the front turns the whole setup into a clean white line, and it keeps the camper out of sight of anyone driving past.

Height is the first thing to check. A camper roof can sit well above a six foot fence, so the fence screens the wheels and the clutter rather than the whole rig. St. Cloud allows fences up to eight feet in any yard, though an HOA can set a lower cap, and we confirm the rule for your address before we order anything. Notice the big live oak too. The fence line stays clear of its trunk, and the roots around it were left alone. Our fence company in St. Cloud page covers how lot size and neighborhood change a job across town.

How we built it

Why build a vinyl fence on a steel frame?

Because vinyl alone sags across a long span. Steel underneath keeps it straight for years.

A vinyl gate is fine across a walkway. Stretch it wide enough to clear a camper and it starts to droop at the far end within a season or two, and then it drags. The fix is to build the structure out of steel and use the vinyl as the skin. In the first photo below, the crew has the black steel frames up, braced on the diagonal, with white vinyl posts standing in place before any panels go on. Notice the wheel at the bottom of the frame on the right, which carries the weight so the hinges and posts do not have to.

In the second photo, the section in front of the carport is already skinned in white vinyl while the steel to its right is still bare. Once every panel was on, the steel disappeared. That is the point. You get the strength of a metal gate with a face that matches the rest of the fence. Jobs like this take longer than a standard privacy run because the frame is measured and welded for the opening. To talk through yours, schedule a free estimate or call (407) 593-1888.
